After a very long trip from Jakarta by train, ferry, and bus, finally I arrived in Bali on 25th October 2017. I stayed 2 nights in my friend house at Kuta area. While I have a very pleasant stay with my friend, I decided to splurging a little on my last night in Bali. Therefore I decided to stay at L Hotel Seminyak Bali.
L Hotel Seminyak Bali is a member of Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) of The World, which located in the famous Petitenget Street. I found that the hotel location is really good, close to some best nightlife spot in Bali.
Arrived at the hotel around 14.00, I promptly greeted by a very friendly Butler (the head butler, I guess) who assist my check-in process. While the lobby itself isn’t grand, somehow I love the decorations. The lobby looks chic and elegant.
The check-in process was a breeze. Before I go to my room, I was offered to experience their complimentary welcome massage. I love massage, so with no doubt I said yes. Shortly after, another butler escort me to the treatment room which located at the 1st floor.
The welcome massage lasted for about 15 minutes, it is more than enough for me to feel refreshed after traveling from Kuta to Seminyak. After the massage, my butler was ready outside of treatment room door for escorting me to my room which located at the 2nd floor.
L Hotel Seminyak only have 3 type of rooms: The Lifestyle Suite, The Legian Suite, and The Luxe Suite. I booked the The Lifestyle Suite which is their lowest category room. To my surprise, they upgraded me to their highest category room, The Luxe Suite.
The suite was nicely decorated, inspired by traditional Balinese ‘Bale’. The bed was so comfortable and the room amenities was very good. Since I booked the via SLH, I can use the minibar for free. Also to make you will have a good night sleep, they had a few pillow options on their ‘pillow menu’ foy you to choose.
With an open-concept bathroom, here you can find a full sized dressing table, rainfall-style shower, toilet, and luxurious bathtub in the middle of the room. Both shower and toilet is separated from the room by floor-to-ceiling half blurred glass. I’m a little disappointed because I expecting Khiel’s branded toiletries, but I can’t find one during my stay.
I learned from the butler that the hotel has a separated pool facility and day bed facility in Petitenget Beach for guest. Considering that it was almost sunset time and I always love to watch the sunset, I opted to try the day bed. I walking down to the lobby and ordered a day bed and a shuttle to Petitenget Beach. After waiting for a while, the butler told me that the day bed and shuttle was ready. It takes roughly 15 minutes from Hotel to Petitenget Beach.
The shuttle driver leave me shortly after dropped me off at the beach. I forgot to asked the driver for a clear direction to day bed area. So I tried to search and even asking peoples nearby, but the day bed was nowhere to be found. I called the butler and she said she will checking the matter soon. After minutes of waiting the butler called us and she apologize because it happens that the day bed attendant was absent, therefore there was no day bed on the day.
For me it is ridiculous and I was so pissed off. If I knew that there are no day bed service earlier on the day, then it would be fine for me. But the case is the butler said to me that the day bed was ready, but when I reached the place I found out that the day bed isn’t exist at all on the day. I decided to go to Double Six Beach, which is more lively than Petitenget Beach. I called the butler again, ordered a shuttle to fetch me in Double Six Beach at 18.30
I spent some times in Double Six Beach. After watching the sunset, around 18.15 I decided to go back to the hotel. The shuttle was already there waiting for me. The head butler is also there along with the driver. The head butler apologize for my unpleasant experience regarding the day bed and she offer me for a complimentary airport drop off service. I don’t remember that airport drop off service was included in my booking, so I take it as good will of them which is a nice recovery action.
Due to traffic around Seminyak area, I arrived at the hotel around 19.15. The lobby looks brightly charming in the evening.
Turn down service has been done before I entering my room. It is lovely that the hotel provide a bed time story in the neatly folded paper.
I paid a visit to the rooftop bar named Grow Up, which located at the 5th floor (if I’m not mistaken). The bar was really nice and cozy. Too bad I’m not really in the mood to drink that night, so I ordered a Latte instead. I was so tired and in need of good sleep, so I come down to my room after spending like 1 hour in the bar.
Guest who stay in The Luxe Suite are free to choose, whether to have a breakfast in the room or in the restaurant. Breakfast in the room is not a thing for me, so I go to the restaurant.
Rather than buffet, the breakfast in L Hotel Seminyak was served in ala carte style. The guest are free to choose between 3 set menu: L’Brealfast, Healthy Breakfast, or Indonesian Breakfast. With no doubt I choose ‘Mie Goreng’ from Indonesian Breakfast, and I’m not regret it at all!
After finishing my breakfast, I was preparing to leave the hotel. At 10.30, the car which will take me to airport was ready in front of the lobby. I haven’t visit the hotel’s pool yesterday, so I make a quick stop at the pool before heading to the airport.
The pool actually very close to the hotel, probably only 5 minutes walk. The pools also nice, thought nothing spectacular.
The journey to the airport was take roughly 1 hour from the hotel. I arrive in airport around 11.30.
Despite the flop on day bed and my concern about toiletries, overall L Hotel Seminyak Bali exceeding my expections. I think the hard product itself was just rather so so, compared with other 5 star hotels in Bali. But what makes this hotel special for me is their soft product and their attention to the details.
I believe nothing is perfect in this world, including service. Yes, they did mistake. But for me, the most important thing is recovery action that they performed. So yes, I will be back to L Hotel Seminyak Bali hopefully in the not really far future.
