Review: Garuda Indonesia Business Class B777-300ER Tokyo to Jakarta

After spending a few days in Japan, sadly I have to go back to Jakarta. I fly back to my country in business class of Garuda Indonesia. I taking advantage of Garuda Indonesia’s 90% redemption discount promo which I wrote in my previous review. If I separate the cost that I paid for both outbound and inbound ticket, the inbound ticket was only cost me IDR 1,367,700. What a steal!

Garuda Indonesia 875

Depart: 11.39 (scheduled 11.45)
Arrive: 17.06 (scheduled 16.55)
Duration: 7 hours 27 minutes

Tokyo International Airport only have 1 terminal for all international flight, the international terminal. Check-in desk for Garuda Indonesia located in the left end of terminal. They have dedicated check in area for premium cabin passengers (separated between first class and business class) as well for members of Skyteam elite and elite plus. The ground staff was generous enough, they let me check-in at the empty first class desk.

After a few seconds (yes, you read it right. Japanese are really efficient), I make my way to the security check area and immigration. Unfortunately, there are no dedicated security check line for business class passenger. While it’s rather annoying, thanks to Japanese efficiency the security check process done in about 15 minutes.

Garuda Indonesia business class passengers are invited to enjoy TIAT Lounge Annex, which located in the 5th floor of international departure area. I pay visit to this lounge for smoking and sipping some liquor. The lounge itself was pretty nice and does feel airy with floor-to-ceiling window, with wide array foods and liquors. I like the smoking room at this lounge, with giant window overlooking the tarmac.

About 60 minutes before scheduled departure time, I moved to the boarding lounge and boarding commence about 15 minutes after. From this boarding, I can see the iron bird which will take me back to Jakarta.

I boarded the aircraft trough door 2L. The boarding order is first class, members of Skyteam elite and elite plus, business class, and economy class. There are 3 purser who greet me at the door, helping me to find my seat. For some reasons, I feel like this crew is better than the previous one on my outbound flight.

Just like the previous flight outbound, waiting in my seat were Clarins branded amenity kit, noise-cancelling headphone, pillow, duvet, and a bottle of mineral water.

A purser come down to my seat, offering me a hot towel and ask what I want for welcome drink. This time, I choose ‘martabe’ juice, Garuda premium cabin’s signature drink. Martabe is a mixed juice consist of passion fruit and tamarillo. I guess my choice is far from wrong 🙂

The door closed at 11.39. Taxi and take off process is very swift. Around 12.30, we reach the cruising altitude.

This aircraft also equipped with in-flight connectivity. I choose the 24 hour plan, covering my entire flight.

Garuda serve full set lunch on this flight. There are choices of Japanese ryokan kaiseki meal, western meal, and Indonesian meal. Getting tired of Japanese cuisine after a week in Japan, With no regret I choose the western option.

The meal service took about 1.5 hour. I order a glass of champagne and a glass martini before I get some rest.

Somehow I’m unable to get any proper sleep during this daytime flight. So I order an Indonesian satay platter and also another glass of champagne.

Around 16.15 we are preparing for landing, and about 45 minutes after we landed at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

Feeling so tired and really need some good rest after this flight, I go straight to clearing the immigration and security check process. There is an arrival lounge for Garuda business class passengers, located at luggage claim area. The lounge is rather basic, with a few chairs, toilet, and a minibar where you can get non-alcoholic drinks. While waiting at the lounge, I handed my luggage claim tag to the lounge staff, and shortly after they bring my luggage to the lounge.

Bottom line

While my experience on the outbound flight is good enough, but I feel my experience on this inbound flight was better. The pursers seems really genuine, the food quality is better, and I love their post flight services.

But probably the flight schedule isn’t really good for business traveler, since the flight is arriving in the late afternoon. It will be better if Garuda considering to add more flight on Jakarta – Tokyo vv route, so traveler will have more choices of schedule.
