I visit my parents in Bandung regularly, almost once a month. Due to heavy traffic in the highway over the weekend, train is the most reliable transportation between Jakarta and Bandung. This time I tried Argo Parahyangan with brand new coach when I get back from Bandung to Jakarta.

Argo Parahyangan 11163
Bandung (Bandung Station) to Jakarta (Gambir Station)
Date: 4th March 2018
Depart: 20.50
Arrive: 00.21
Duration: 3 Hours 10 Minutes
Coach: Eksekutif-8
Seat: 8D

I didn’t need to print boarding pass for this journey, thanks to Kereta Api Indonesia’s mobile app which allow passenger to board the train using e-boarding pass on the app. I went to the boarding gate and headed to platform 6 where I will wait for my train. About 10 minutes later, my train was ready at Track 6.

I was surprised that my train featured a brand new train set, fresh from the factory sometime around February 2018. The body of the train coach is coated in stainless still, making the coach really easy to recognize. If you happen to find your train coach something like in the picture below, it means you about to ride one of the newest fleet in the entire Kereta Api Indonesia.

I boarded the train using the front door and settled in my favorite train seat 8D. Similar with the older executive train coach, there are 50 seat on each coach arranged in 2-2 configuration.

Even though the seat configuration is similar with the older one, the seat used on the new coach is way comfortable with ‘ear’ on each side of the seat. Also I like the blue color scheme used on the seat, feels fresh somehow. There also easily adjustable foot rest on each seat, except for the seat in the very front of the coach

At the side of each seat, there is a button to manually recline the seat. There also power ports to charge small gadget which very useful for me. Like the older coach, the seat featured a small table hidden inside the armrest.

Luggage rack are located above the seat, complete with reading lights in case anyone need additional light.

Compared with any other train coach that I ever rode in Indonesia, this cabin was somewhat quiet. I sleep very well on this train, dozed off a few minutes after the train departed from Bandung station and woke up a few minutes before the train about to arrived in Gambir Station.

Bottom line

If my schedule allow, with no doubt I will always try to catch a train featuring this new train set. The combination of quiet cabin and comfortable seat makes me it really easy dozz off during my regular shuttle between Bandung and Jakarta.

My only complain was the blanket which not available on this train. I understand that Kereta Api Indonesia will not provide blanket for short route like this. But the train cabin temperature can be very cool during the night ride, so I guess a blanket will help a lot to increase passenger comfort.
